Best Public Bathroom Nominees Sought
The 2011 search for America's Best Restroom is on, and the survey is looking to the public to nominate their favorite restrooms – whether they be elegant or eclectic – for an award.
Nominations for the king of the thrones are now being accepted online and can come from any public place, including restaurants, hotels, theaters and even ball parks.
Last year's winner was the Fountain on Locust, an ice cream parlor in St. Louis that has a bathroom decked out in hand-painted murals, ornate fixtures and designer mirrors.
"Winning the America's Best Restroom Contest was some of the best exposure the Fountain on Locust has enjoyed. We heard from folks from all over the country when they read about us or saw us on TV," says Joy Christensen, owner of the vintage ice cream parlor.
The survey for the most luxurious loo has been conducted since 2002 by Cintas Corporation, a Cincinnati-based company that provides restroom supplies.
"This is our tenth year for America's Best Restroom, and it just keeps growing in popularity and participation," says Cintas Senior Marketing Manager Rich Bing in a press release.
"The nominees go well beyond just being clean; they are truly memorable. Most importantly these businesses recognize and value the impact a restroom has on their guest's experience."
The deadline for nominations is Friday, April 15. In July, 10 finalists will be named and the public will be able to vote online for their favorite until September.
