"Play Days" at the San Diego Zoo Start Friday

Just in time for spring, the San Diego Zoo will kick off a 23-day long series of "Play Days" that feature a range of animal experiences each day starting this Friday, April 2.

Special activities
for the Play Days include keeper talks, special treats and toys for the animals, opportunities to meet Zoo creatures up close, and more.

Play Days will begin at 9 a.m. each day at the zoo entrance, where Elmo, the Zoo's miniature horse, will pull a wagon full of racing pigeons to Cody the corgi, who will then release the birds into the sky.

Throughout the rest of the day, guests will be able to watch polar bears receive special treats or toys, elephants receive manicures and pedicures, trainers demonstrate tricks with big cats, and feedings with meerkats, Galapagos tortoises, tigers, giraffes and other creatures.

Bonobos, also known as pygmy chimpanzees, will snack on popsicles while guests receive free treats of their own.

Guests will also be able to catch glimpse of the San Diego Zoo's new baby hippo, Adhama, who was born on January 26.

The San Diego Zoo will host a Happy Hour from 4 to 6 p.m. each day, when one of the Zoo's animals break open a piñata and food and drink options will be available for both adults and children.

The Play Days are free with paid admission to the San Diego Zoo every day from April 2 to 24.
