This spring, Girl Scout Cookies are once again selling in one of the hottest retail formats: pop-up stores.

These are temporary stores designed to drum up buzz for a retailer (popularized by stores like Target). They appear for a limited time -- say, Girl Scout cookie season -- and just as suddenly, disappear again.

And based on initial strong cookie sales at these temporary shops, fans of Thin Mints and Samoas nationwide could get their fix as well, as the Girl Scouts consider opening other pop-up stores throughout the country, Michelle Tompkins, media manager of Girl Scouts of the USA, told WalletPop.

"If it's successful [in New York], naturally other councils will want to do it," Tompkins says.

The Girl Scout Cookie Pop-Up Shops, located in each of New York City's five boroughs, will be up through May 5, selling $4 boxes of Samoas, Thin Mints, Do-Si-Dos, Trefoils, Tagalongs and Lemon Chalet Cremes
