A Eugene, Ore., law firm that garnered dozens of complaints about its debt collection practices has been shut down as part of a settlement agreement with the Oregon Department of Justice.

"At a time when many Oregonians are struggling to manage their debt, the Department of Justice is committed to holding unscrupulous debt collectors accountable," Keith Dubanevich, chief of staff for the Oregon Department of Justice, said in a statement.

Oregon's DOJ began investigating Derrick E. McGavic, founding partner of McGavic & Finney PC, and his partner, Kristan Finney, after receiving more than 90 complaints against their law firm. At the same time, the Oregon State Bar was investigating McGavic.
