Police Officer Shoots Himself to Get Award
What the police officer claimed was that six unidentified men started shooting at him while he was on personal protection duty at the house of a former politician, and that they hit him three times, in the stomach and arm, then sped away.
What really happened was that the police officer shot himself three times in hopes of receiving a bravery award. Mahesh Rajguru of Jaipur, the capital of the eastern state of Rajasthan, in India, was admitted to a government hospital where his condition was reported as stable.
But his position on the police force? Not so much. When senior officials arrived on the spot where the crime was reported, they immediately became suspicious. It seems that all the empty cartridges they found could be traced to Rajguru's gun. After that, they searched his living quarters, and found narcotic drugs.
When pressed, Rajguru confessed that he'd made the whole thing up, and shot himself to "claim a gallantry award by showing bravery," according to the BBC. Looks like he figured he might as well take a shot at it.
