Now Hiring: YouTube
All that time you spend on YouTube watching videos might not be in vain after all! YouTube is looking to expand its staff by more than 30 percent, adding at least an additional 200 jobs. The video company expects 2011 to be its biggest hiring year ever.
Granted, the majority of the new job descriptions do not involve watching videos of either dogs with hands or precocious babies all day. Most of the openings call for positions that range from advertising sales to engineering, and the majority will be located at the company's headquarters in San Bruno, Calif. But there are also some opportunities to work overseas, in glamorous cities such as Milan, St. Petersburg, Tokyo and Zurich.
Even though some might view YouTube as a trendy company, it's probably safe to say that your job there would be secure. Job information for YouTube positions are handled through the Google careers site. If you want to find out about openings specifically at YouTube, just fill in "San Bruno" in the location section of the job search tool.
Once there, you'll find numerous openings for product development, media and marketing managers, software and systems engineers, communications associates, partnership specialists, operations workers, advertising and support personnel, recruiters -- the list goes on and on. The site gives you plenty of tips on how to prepare your CV/resume, and even gives interview tips.
As you can imagine, there's a lot of competition for jobs at both Google and YouTube, but don't let that keep you from applying. They can afford to be choosy and to wait for the perfect candidate. Who knows? They might be waiting for you.
