Last-Minute Spring Break Travel: These Packages Are Still Available
Bermuda gets a bad rap for being expensive, but check out the Bermuda Family Package at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess and the Fairmont Southampton, which not only offers room rates from $299 per night, but also throws in a free second room for kids under 18. Add to that half-price dining from the children's menu for young guests aged 6 to 12 and free meals for those 5 and younger, and you have yourself a deal.
Beach lovers should take note that the Southampton property has one of the best beach locations on the island, but guests who prefer the quaint charm and harbor views in Hamilton can hop on the free ferry service and enjoy reciprocal access to the beach and other resort amenities. The spring break special is available through April 30.
Lance Armstrong wannabes can jump on a Bicycle Stroll Package at the 240-room beachfront Isla Verde Beach Resort in Puerto Rico that combines two free three-hour bike rentals with accommodations and daily breakfast buffet at Salsa Restaurant.
To entice families with children, the property offers kids' and toddler pools and a playground, while even moody teens can get behind weekly salsa and meringue classes. Junior Food Network stars can learn their way around the kitchen via Chef Nelson Rosado's weekly free cooking lessons for guests who want to graduate from, say, ho-hum desserts to white chocolate ganache. The special, priced from $175 per night per room, has a two-night minimum stay.
The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla., consistently gets high marks for its sandy beach, two championship golf courses and tennis courts, but is there a way to enjoy the resort without breaking the bank? This spring, the property is helping ease the strain on your wallet by offering a Breakers Rewards program that earns guests up to $200 a night per room – depending on the room rate – in credits. Good through April 30, the credits can be used throughout the resort, including on the golf course, the nine restaurants and five bars or even at the spa. You can also apply them to the children's programs at the Family Entertainment center, where families can enjoy movie night, get crafty or challenge each other to a rousing game of basketball at the Outdoor Sports Court and Playground.
Want to mix a little history into your family fun? Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va., unveiled a two-night Spring Fever package that bundles in accommodations, buffet breakfasts and shuttle service to Colonial Williamsburg. The fun part is the unlimited admission to Busch Gardens, complete with transportation, and as much play on the resort's nine-hole Bray Links golf course as you can handle.
The good news for families who fear a little too much togetherness is that the 422-room property offers one-, two- and three-bedroom units, as well as six restaurants, a spa, a kids' play room and a marina on the James River. Expect to pay from $679 for a family of four for the two-night package.
Head for the sun at Azul Fives Hotel by Karisma, an all-suite property that opened on Nov. 1 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The resort is trimming prices by up to 30% on spring and summer stays, as long as you book by April 30. Not crazy about the food at all-inclusives? The company's Gourmet Inclusive program is a step above with a la carte dining, room service and alcoholic drinks.
Kids can whoop it up at the Fisher-Price Azulitos Kid's Club, the Fisher-Price Toy Lending Library and the My Gym Children's Fitness Center, and mom and dad can learn to dive, hit the spa, or enjoy a quiet night out. Parents can also go easy on the packing, thanks to such freebie amenities as strollers, cribs, changing tables, baby food and, yes, baby spa robes. Discounted rates start at $235 per person, per night, including meals; kids 3 to 12 get 50% off, 3 and younger stay free.
You know kids rule when a hotel goes to the trouble of creating a mascot, and such is the case at Trump International Beach Resort in Sunny Isles Beach, Miami. Globie, a cuddly, sun-glasses-wearing planet Earth, is the star of the property's You're My Hero spring break package that aims to lure kids with free gifts and activities. Priced from $385 per night per room, the package includes accommodations in a Junior Suite, a kids' Superpower Essentials welcome bag – complete with two pair of swim goggles, two sand buckets and two Super Soakers – and daily admission to Planet Kids club. The club features a whole menu of quasi-educational fun, ranging from sand castle making to learning about local marine life. Mom and Dad are not forgotten with two free cocktails at the pool and a gift of sunscreen.
The package requires a two-night minimum stay and runs through April 30.
Well-heeled spring breakers longing for far-flung destinations can take advantage of a fourth free night at the Anantara Kihavah Villas on Kihavah Huravalhi Island in the Maldives, the company's newest property. Landlubbers need not apply, as all 78 villas are perched over water, the Sea.Fire.Salt.Sky restaurant has an underwater dining room and the spa boasts a glass-floor treatment room. No surprise, then, that outdoor activities include fishing, surfing and diving.
The starting rate for Anantara Kihavah is $1,170 for a Beach Pool Villa; the new Extra Night on Us special is good through April 15.
