Ford Motor (F) is recalling nearly 32,000 recent-vintage pickup trucks and crossover vehicles in two separate actions to fix fuel leaks and electrical shorts that may lead to fires, according to a notice posted Wednesday on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

The largest of the twin recalls involves 23,688 Ford Ranger compact pickups from the 2010 model year. A cover that protects the vehicles' fuel line near the throttle body shield may not been installed correctly, causing the fuel line to chafe and leading to a possible fuel leak and fire, Ford said in its filing.

The automaker said it wasn't aware of any fires related to the problem. The Ranger pickups were manufactured in Ford's Twin Cities Assembly plant in Minnesota from October 2009 through May 2010.

Separately, Ford advised NHTSA that it is recalling 8,022 vehicles from the 2011 model year spanning seven models to repair electrical systems that may short and result in a vehicle fire.

Models affected include Ford's F-Series pickup truck line -- F150, F250, F350, F450 and F550, and two crossover vehicles: the Ford Edge and similar Lincoln MKX.

Ford said both recalls will begin on or about March 7. Vehicle owners with questions can call the company at 866-436-7332.
