Summer Infant Inc. has issued a recall for 1.7 million video baby monitors following the strangulation deaths of two infants in the cords and the near-strangulation of another baby, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The deaths of a six-month-old Conway, S.C., boy and a 10-month-old Washington, D.C., girl were reported to the CPSC in the past year. The agency said it learned in January that the product involved in the South Carolina death was a Summer Infant video monitor.

This comes just months after the CPSC issued a warning that baby monitor cords are a potential danger and had caused at least six deaths.
