New iPad Prototype Makes Sly Appearance at News Corp Daily Launch

News Corp.'s launch of The Daily, its highly touted online newspaper designed for the iPad, apparently featured more than just the latest stories out of Egypt. The publication's debut was shown on an unreleased version of Apple's (AAPL) iPad, which according to a Reuters report, featured dual front- and rear-facing cameras like the iPhone.

Speculation about the next version of the iPad has been making the rounds since late last year, but the bold step of quietly using a prototype to unveil News Corp.'s (NWS) new digital product to a roomful of journalists suggests its pending arrival may be more immediate than its previously expected unveiling a few months out.

According to the report, the final version of the updated iPad will have more new features than the video-chat-friendly cameras. Perhaps Apple watchers will get a sneak peek of some of those at another unrelated industry event soon where the iPad is put to use.
