Merrick Pet Care recalled its Jr. Texas Taffy dog treats sold nationwide in stores, including Petco and Agway, because they may be contaminated with salmonella, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

So far no illnesses have been reported, the FDA said. Humans who handle the dog treats -- essentially beef jerky for pooches -- also risk a potentially life-threatening infection. Symptoms for infected pets include lethargy, fever, diarrhea and vomiting. Humans can develop infections with many of the same symptoms.
