Comcast's Xfinity Reaches Deal for Air Turner Broadcast Shows
Comcast's (CMSCA) Xfinity videostreaming service has reached an agreement to air content from Time Warner's (TWX) Broadcasting unit.
Under the deal, Xfinity users will be able to watch shows from TNT, TBS, CNN and Cartoon Network, among others, Comcast Senior Vice President Matt Strauss wrote in a blog post Tuesday. In addition to previously aired shows, live streaming of Turner Broadcasting shows such as "Conan" and "Men of a Certain Age" will become available later this year.
The agreement follows Comcast's January announcement that it would make almost 3,000 hours of on-demand content available this year to tablet-computer owners who subscribe to Xfinity. The pact is also part of Comcast's "TV Everywhere" online service, which debuted in late 2009.
Earlier this month, Comcast received Federal Communications Commission approval to acquire a majority stake in NBC Universal from General Electric (GE). The $13.8 billion transaction was subject to certain conditions, including making NBC programming available to competing cable companies, satellite operators and other Internet video services.
