  • Managed the overall global delivery of outsourced network/telecom engineering services and solutions to the Chemical, Energy & Natural Resource (CENR) market vertical. 1988 -2000 RELIANT ENERGY, Houston, Texas

Director, Telecommunications

  • Directed staff of 90 in design, maintenance, and daily operation of $120-million, private communications network for multi-state electric/gas utility enterprise (1,500 locations, 10,000 work stations, 16,000 employees, 6,000 vehicles).

  • Personally marketed, negotiated, and closed contracts for the lease of private network infrastructure (fiber optic cable, antenna sites, etc.) to telecommunications carriers (MCI Worldcom, AT&T, PCS Primeco, Sprint PCS), local universities and school districts. Revenue: > $100 million.

  • Successfully managed the replacement of a multi-featured 420-agent call center system. Result: cost-efficient handling of 25,000 calls/day, reduction of 22 positions.

  • Authored and directed the implementation of a five-year Network Master Plan, consolidating data/voice/video services for 35 major locations, featuring a Nortel-based host/remote solution. Result: $15 million savings in annual operating expense.

  • Implemented re-design of internal service order processes. Result: Improvement of client satisfaction index to 99.8%

  • Managed the successful deployment of a software-driven mobile radio system, covering 4,000 vehicles and hand-held units. Result: Efficient utilization of existing 24 radio channels, avoiding need to initiate multimillion-dollar acquisition of additional frequencies.

SPRINT COMMUNICATIONS, INC.

  • Capital budget preparation, cost/productivity analysis, and asset management of the construction of Sprint's 24,000-mile nationwide fiber optic network. Four-year construction budget: $5 billion.

  • Installation/operations/maintenance of all fiber/microwave facilities within the seven-state Atlantic Region. Annual budget: $14 million.

  • Design of interconnection facilities, site search, purchase negotiations, and closing activities associated with the establishment of POP's (Points of Presence) within each of approximately 200 Local Access and Transport Areas (LATAs).


GTE (now VERIZON)

  • Succession of seven engineering-oriented ILEC (Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier) line and staff assignments (various locations in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, and Connecticut) of increasing responsibility, highlighted by promotion to State Director-Network in Marion, Ohio. Directed 715 employees responsible for the design, construction, and operation of the statewide Outside Plant (OSP) network, as well as corresponding activities associated with PBX and Special Services engineering. Operating budget: $30 million.
