Toyota

said it is recalling nearly 1.7 million vehicles around the world for defects that may cause fuel leakage. It is the latest in a 15-month string of recalls for the Japanese automaker.

The recall effects a wide range of models, including the IS and GS Lexus luxury models in North America and the Avensis sedan and station wagon models in Europe. There are no reported accidents related to the defects, the company said. But it has received 77 complaints overseas, 75 in North America and more than 140 reports in Japan.
