If Zynga were a sentient robot bent on global domination, the news of the company's ninth acquisition in just eight months would probably sound more like, "East Coast of United States: Conquered. Bzzt. Calculating probability future conquests. Beep. Please hold." Too bad it's just one really big social games company. he monolithic developer will soon open Zynga New York after it just picked up Area/Code for an unknown sum. Now that Zynga owns studios both in Bostonand The Big Apple, it should be safe to consider the East Coast officially acquired.

Best known recently for creating CSI: Crime City with Ubisoft, the Area/Code team will now be known as the Zynga New York team. It will be lead by Demetri Detsaridis and Frank Lantz, the studio's existing general manager and creative director, respectively.

From Area/Code's site: "Our ambition is to contribute in a major way to the evolution of games on social networks, to make games in this space that are deeper and more interesting, games that reward the time and attention of the millions of people who play them with complex, meaningful experiences. We believe our best shot at doing this is working with Zynga, the biggest, most successful company in this space."

Currently, there are no details as to what purpose Zynga New York will serve, but Area/Code's experience with mobile social games and Zynga's recent releases, acquisitions and ambitions are pretty big hints.

"Area/Code has proven itself as a strong and creative innovator with the ability to deliver successful new games on Facebook and for mobile," Zynga says in an official statement. "This addition is truly deepening our bench of world-class talent, with a team that ultimately shares our passion for innovation and success."
