SnapTax App Allows You to File Taxes From Your Mobile Phone

Turbo Tax SnapTax appTurboTax is pioneering a brand new way to quickly and easily file your personal income tax returns. Launching today, SnapTax is a new smartphone app for iPhone and Android devices that will allow users to complete and file a Form 1040EZ and state income tax return while on the go and without using a computer.

SnapTax is similar to the popular online TurboTax products that many taxpayers have been using for years to complete and file state and federal income tax returns. The app is free to download and only requires payment when you're ready to file your return. Once everything is complete and you're ready to e-file both of your tax returns, the cost is a very reasonable $14.99.The SnapTax application seems very easy to use. Taxpayers simply download the app from the Apple App Store or Google's Android Marketplace and install it on their iOS or Android-powered mobile device. Then using the camera on their smartphone, they just snap a picture of their W2 when prompted by the app, and the tax returns are automatically filled out with employment and earning information. The app asks taxpayers to answer a few basic questions about themselves, review the accuracy of the tax information to be submitted, then click "File Now" to submit the return. The entire process of filing state and federal personal income tax returns can be completed in just a few minutes.

The SnapTax app uses optical character recognition (OCR) technology to accurately decipher W2 information from the image users take using their smartphone's camera. In the event that any information should be entered incorrectly by the software, the taxpayer can make changes after reviewing the information prior to filing. The app received considerable testing by taxpayers in California, who were able to try the new software last year using their iPhones. It was very well received, earning a four-star rating by users in the Apple App Store, and as of today, it's available nationwide to taxpayers in every state.

Meanwhile, the IRS officially kicks off tax season with the release of its newest version of e-File software today.
