Home Insurance for the New Year

Updated

When was the last time you took a good look at your home insurance policy?

Insurance is one of those things that's easy for homeowners to ignore. Once you sign up for a policy, chances are you write the check for the annual renewal without giving a lot of thought to whether your needs (or your insurer's terms of coverage) have changed. Too often, the first time you realize your coverage is inadequate is when you need it most--after a flood, fire, or other home emergency.

So this New Year, make a point of pulling the policy out of the drawer and giving it a careful once-over. Like changing the battery in your smoke detector, it's a small chore now that could pay huge dividends down the line.

After all, what's a better gift than knowing you and your family are well protected?
