Little Bear Brand Produce Recall Expands to 19 Vegetables, Greens
This week the company recalled certain lots of curly parsley and cilantro after tests showed positive for salmonella contamination. So far there have been no illnesses reported.
The expanded recall includes 16 states -- Washington, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Missouri, Rhode Island, New York, Texas, Ohio, Connecticut, Ohio, Colorado, Illinois and Oklahoma -- and the provinces of Ontario and Quebec in Canada.Produce included in the expanded recall includes beet, turnips, leeks, chard, arugula, mint, mustard and kohlrabi. All the produce was packed either on Nov. 30 or Dec. 6 -- a change from the announcement earlier this week.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has a complete list of the recalled produce and the states where it was shipped.
The company said most consumers buy the produce and eat it within 14 days of the packed-by date, making it likely much of it has been eaten. But anyone who has the recalled food can return it to the store for a full refund.
Salmonella can cause a potentially fatal infection in the very young or those with weakened immune systems, as well as diarrhea, nausea and stomach cramps in others.
