Air Passenger Arrested After Bullets Explode in Luggage

A 37-year-old air passenger was arrested at Miami International Airport after bullet components in his checked luggage exploded as the bag was being off-loaded from an American Airlines flight.

Orville Braham had several hundred bullet primers -- which ignite the gunpowder in a bullet -- in his luggage, according to FBI officials. He now faces federal charges.

A naturalized U.S. citizen, Braham had flown from Boston to Miami and was on his way to Jamaica.

The bag exploded as it was being transferred from the Boston plane. The bag had been set on the ground by a baggage handler -- who ended up getting a few shards of metal in his shoe, but was not injured.

The 148 passengers on the flight from Boston were already off the plane.

The Miami-Dade bomb squad was called to the airport, and the tarmac was cleared before it was determined there was no bomb.

FBI spokesman Mike Leverock says the incident was not terrorism-related.
