In this era of chronic obesity, we might consider re-framing the way we view what we consider "a good job". Perhaps, we might consider a prized job to be one which burns plenty of calories. This way, you get to have your cake and eat it, then work it off - all while getting paid!

For example, during the Blizzard of 2010, those who shoveled snow worked off anywhere from 400 to 700 calories an hour. The higher their weight, the more calories they burned. Not bad for a job where many grateful customers tip generously.

During that same blizzard, those housebound and snacking in front of their televisions were entertained by athletes playing ice hockey and performing figure skating routines which worked off more than 800 calories each hour.

Here are some other occupations which can keep you trim. According to FitDay, a 160 pound, 5'5" male, age 35 consumes this many calories a hour doing the following jobs:

Fire Person climbing a ladder in full gear - 690

Police Officer making an arrest - 483
