Recipients Value Gifts Below Retail and Other Gift Stats (Infographic)

Updated

It seems pretty simple, If you get a $500 iPad for Christmas, the value is $500, but according to an infographic put together by WePay the value we place on gifts is actually much less, only $409, than if we had purchased the item on our own. The lower value isn't limited to technology, it's also there on sweaters, diamond rings and pretty much anything else you've already crossed off your shopping list.

The good news is that even if your recipient will place a lower-than-retail value on the item you have wrapped up for them, you still have a chance to come out ahead of other gift givers. The infographic also highlights the different values we place on gifts based on who is giving them to us. It's no surprise that a gift from our significant other ranks higher than one from our in-laws, but you may be interested to see that a gift from Grandma and Grandpa outrank one from Mom and Dad!
