Activision Seeks $400 Million from Rival Electronic Arts

Video game powerhouse Activision Blizzard (ATVI) is seeking $400 million in damages from Electronic Arts (ERTS) over its Call of Duty video game series.

Activision wants to add Electronic Arts as a defendant in a case against two former employees who developed the hit Call of Duty franchise, Reuters reported.

The former employees, Jason West and Vincent Zampella, have sued Activision, saying they wrongly dismissed. The pair wants $36 million in royalty payments and damage.

In April, Activision countersued. On Tuesday, the company said that West and Zampella broke an agreement to develop games exclusively for Activision and set up an independent company to develop games for Electronic Arts.

"As a result, Activision has suffered damages measured not in the millions, but hundreds of millions of dollars," Activision said in the filing.

Call of Duty: Black Ops, the latest installment of the violent video game franchise, has been one of the biggest video game hits of the year, bringing in more than $1 billion in sales.

The complaint was filed with the California Superior Court for Los Angeles County.
