AOL Jobs recently interviewed Glassdoor co-founder and CEO, Robert Hohman, to learn more about Glassdoor's exciting features.

Q. What is

A. Think of as the TripAdvisor of jobs and workplaces. Glassdoor is a career community that lets people find jobs and anonymously contribute information about positions at specific companies. This includes salary and other compensation details, ratings on key attributes of a job such as career advancement, work-life balance and opinion of senior management. In addition, visitors to Glassdoor can get an inside look into the hiring process through our interview questions and reviews, or virtually check out a company through office photos.

Q. How does work?

A. We've made it easy for anyone to get an inside look into more than 108,000 companies across the globe. Users can browse the millions of job listings on the site, access salary and compensation information, or get a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to work at an employer -– all for free.

New members are asked to contribute to the Glassdoor community by posting an anonymous company review, salary report or interview review and questions. Once a review or report is contributed, the user will then have unlimited access to all other reviews and reports on Glassdoor. This is our free "give to get" model.

Q. What was the inspiration for

A. The idea behind Glassdoor emerged from conversation between myself and Rich Barton, a Glassdoor co-founder and board director. Rich had a "near miss" of printing his company's employee survey to a public printer in the office. The more we talked, the more we wondered if it necessarily would have been a bad thing and why this information is so often kept under lock and key, particularly regarding salaries.

With the advent of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, transparency has become an important part of our daily lives, and quite simply, we want to make finding crucial information about our jobs easier to find. Glassdoor was born to deliver greater transparency to our work life and to help people make better choices about their career.

Q. What's your favorite feature on the site?

A. Our JobScope feature is quite revolutionary, in my opinion. Through JobScope, job seekers no longer have to toggle between a job listing, a company's website and multiple other sources to research and evaluate whether an open job is the best fit for them. From a job listing on Glassdoor, users can also get a peek into company reviews, salary reports, office photos and even see a map of where the hiring company is located. No other website offers as much depth about jobs and companies from actual employees and other job candidates than Glassdoor.

Q. Can you share a success story about someone who landed their job using

A. We frequently hear from job seekers regarding how they've been able to use the information available on Glassdoor in order to make better career decisions. For example, people tell us how they use salary insights for compensation negotiations or use the interview reviews to get a leg up in the hiring process. We had a senior executive write to us recently and tell us that the reviews on Glassdoor helped him "avoid spending time, money, and energy interviewing at companies that I knew would be a bad fit." It was an exciting moment to really see how someone can benefit from the information available on Glassdoor and have their job search be a more productive experience.

Q. What's on the horizon for

A. Our main goal is to keep Glassdoor relevant to the needs of those in the employment space. We're looking forward to continuing to grow our community while further opening the dialogue between job seekers, employees, employers, recruiters, HR professional, analysts and other career professionals.
