Rent Mark Zuckerberg's Former Home

Mark Zuckerberg of FacebookMany jaws were agape when they learned that Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg (pictured left) rented a modest 2,350-square-foot home (pictured below) rather than owning a palatial estate, as HousingWatch reported. Perhaps that was too much pressure, as it seems the subject of the hit movie The Social Network has now moved out of his Palo Alto, Calif., 4-bedroom, 3-bath rental near Stanford University. Now the landlord seeks a new renter, he told AOL Real Estate today.

The social network entrepreneur, whose estimated net worth of $6.9 billion landed him as No. 35 on the Forbes 400 list of the richest people in America, is quite the tenant to live up to, as at least one rejected potential renter more than likely didn't have the same financial resources.

According to a classified on Apartment Hunters the home at 2073 Princeton Street, available for a year's lease at $7,850 per month, was being re-listed for rent because a "previous application to lease this property was not successful."

says the home has hardwood floors and a family room with a view of the kitchen. There is a washer/dryer on the second floor, a wood burning fireplace and "beautiful wood trim." The kitchen is recently remodeled with a wine rack to the left of the gas stove. There is also a two-car detached garage, a backyard, and pets are negotiable.

When the Harvard dropout let Oprah cameras peek inside the home, viewers saw a blue-walled study, a box window over the kitchen sink and double French doors leading from the yellow-painted dining area to the backyard with a concrete patio, stainless steel grill, and hammock. There also appears to be a Juliette balcony on the second-level.

The home's owner, Stanley Wu, who incorporated Netcrescent Systems using this address back in June 2003, at least once sought a roommate for the home in 2004 for $650 per month, according to a PDF of an old Palo Alto Weekly ad AOL Real Estate uncovered. We found no indication that Wu was using Facebook to advertise the home's availability.

One Zuckerberg former neighbor told the Mercury News that she remembers seeing a moving truck at the house right before Thanksgiving. She didn't know where the 26-year-old who was portrayed in "The Social Network" film moved to, but said he was "really nice."

Wu told AOL Real Estate he had no further comments, but according to other news reports he said he did not know why Zuckerberg left, but that he had occupied the home for less than two years.

Right now Zuckerberg just might be traipsing around China. He told Oprah that he and live-in girlfriend Priscilla Chan planned to vacation there at the end of the year so she can visit some family she has there. (Hm. Could an engagement ring soon be on the finger of the woman he met back in college before his Facebook fame?)

We'll be anxiously awaiting to see where and how he settles down. Perhaps he'll decide to finally buy a place, no matter how modest or extravagant.
