Johnson & Johnson's troubled McNeil subsidiary announced a recall of more than 13 million packages of Rolaids because of consumer reports of metal and wood particles in the products.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare, which makes non-prescription drugs such as Tylenol and Benadryl, said it was pulling all lots of Rolaids off the shelves while it investigates how the foreign materials got into the medicines. It said the products were potentially contaminated during the manufacturing process at a third-party manufacturer.
