Young People's Favorite Brands: M&Ms, Google, Reese's

Updated

When it comes to young people's favorite brands, the Internet has nothing on sugar.

That's the gist of a Harris Interactive report released Wednesday on 8- to 24-year olds' favorite brands. Mars's M&Ms bested Google (GOOG) when it came to respondents' familiarity with the brand, belief in its quality and purchase consideration, according to Harris's first-ever brand poll of that age group.

Google came in No. 1, followed by Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Oreo's. Hershey's Milk Chocolate also made the list, coming in at No. 7. Less sugary brands on the top 10 include Apple's (AAPL) iPod music player, Target (TGT) stores, Subway sandwich shops, Doritos chips and Walt Disney's (DIS) Pixar animation studio.

M&Ms won the top spot by ranking high on the lists of multiple age groups within the larger study. Nintendo (NTDOY) Wii was actually the favorite among children 8 through 12 years old, while Reese's topped the list of 13- to 17-year-old teens. Among 18- to 24-year olds, Google came out on top, followed by social networking giant Facebook and the iPod.
