John Mayer Lists L.A. Crash Pad at a Loss

John Mayer lists LA home at a lossJohn Mayer, the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter with the loose lips, is done "Waiting for the World to Change." The controversial pop star has listed his Pacific Palisades home in the posh Highlands community of Los Angeles for $1,325,000 – almost a half-million less than he purchased it for in June 2006.

Unfortunately for Mayer, home prices in 2010 are only a shade of their former glory back in 2006, when the housing market was at its dangerously-inflated peak. Even if the college rocker manages to sell at list price, he'll be down $425,000 from the get-go.

The interior design feels a bit college-dorm-room (disco ball in the hallway – really?), but the space itself is airy and impressive with double-height living room windows and stone flooring. Conspicuously absent are the prayer flags and John Belushi posters that make a frat house a home.

The house is located on a quiet cul-de-sac with ample foliage and yard space for those who value their privacy, and the undeveloped hill behind the home should provide a natural barrier from paparazzi.

But don't feel too broken up about Mayer selling at a loss. According to public records, the singer also owns a home in the SoHo area of New York, which he reportedly bought for $2,173,690. Among his high profile neighbors in the hip New York nabe – supermodel Tyra Banks, who owns the apartment directly above his pad.
