FBI Investigates Fight Between Passenger and Flight Attendant on AA Flight

American Airlines says a flight attendant was "poked and shoved" during a fight with a passenger on a flight from Guatemala City to Miami. The FBI is among federal agencies investigating the incident.

The fight reportedly began about an hour into the flight.

American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith tells AOL Travel News the confrontation began with a "verbal altercation" and escalated to physical.

He says the passenger "followed the flight attendant into the (first-class) forward galley and poked and shoved him."

The argument began when the passenger did not follow crew member instructions from both the flight attendant and the Captain, "although he did later sit down," Smith says.

Miami-Dade Police authorities met the flight on arrival in Miami. The flight had 129 passengers onboard.

FBI spokesman Michael Leverock says results of the preliminary investigation have been forwarded to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Leverock says Homeland Security, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement are also among agencies involved in the investigation.

The name and nationality of the passenger was not released.
