Nissan Leaf Will Get Equivalent of 99 Miles Per Gallon

Nissan's (NSANY) Leaf electric car will get the equivalent of 99 miles per gallon, making it the most fuel-efficient midsize car on the road.

The Leaf does not use gasoline, so the EPA created an "mpg-equivalent" rating for its fuel efficiency, CNNMoney said.

The Leaf will get 106 mpg-e in urban driving and 92 on the highway. Electric cars perform well in city driving because using the brakes helps to recharge the battery.

Still, the EPA estimated that the Leaf's driving range when fully charged will be about 73 miles. Nissan has regularly touted its driving range as 100 miles.

The annual electricity cost for a Leaf will be about $561. The annual fuel cost for Toyota's (TM) Prius is $867.
