The refund checks, which haven't been delivered because of mailing-address errors, average $1,471, up from $1,148 last year, the IRS said in a statement Wednesday.

The IRS said taxpayers can eliminate mailing delays and errors by using direct-deposit services.

Taxpayers who may be missing their refund checks can access the "Where's My Refund" section on the IRS website or call 1-800-829-1954.
