Google Launches Fashion Site Boutiques.com

Updated

The Google (GOOG) algorithm just got stylish.

On Wednesday, the Internet giant launched Boutiques.com, its new fashion site that applies the search engine to the world of clothes.

Users will be able to search through hundreds of virtual boutiques for the styles of celebrities, whether it is Carey Mulligan or Ashley Olsen, The New York Times reported. The site will offer larger, clearer photographs of clothes than any other site.

The site isn't just for the celebs. Any user can develop their own boutique and amass followers. The site will even help you out, suggesting different ways to match and wear clothes and accessories.

Like.com, which Google acquired last year, helped develop the technology. Like.com had experience with fashion sites such as covet.com and couturious.com.

"I've always been impressed with Like.com," said Sucharita Mulpuru, a vice president and retail analyst at Forrester Research, who is familiar with the work on Boutiques.com. "I was just floored by the technology back then and it's evolved since. They've just honed the algorithm."
