New York Comedian Arrested for Trying to Sneak Knife On Plane

A New York comic is scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate after he sneaked a multi-tool with a knife through airport security, and bragged about it.

FBI agents arrested Cardon Ellis, 27, at Salt Lake City International Airport, and charged him with carrying a weapon on an aircraft.

In a felony complaint filed in U.S. District Court, officials say Ellis concealed the multi-tool and slipped it past security, as he headed to a Southwest Airlines to New York, via Chicago.

"While waiting in line, Ellis boasted to another passenger in line that he could get a knife through security without detection," FBI Special Agent Dan Horan says in court documents. "Once on the secure side of the ... checkpoint, Ellis approached the other passenger and showed him the (multi-tool) that he had smuggled through the checkpoint without detection."

The other passenger notified a security officer. The complaint does not say where Ellis, a self-styled comedian and filmmaker, hid the tool.

After prolonged questioning, Ellis told authorities he "knowingly brought the knife through the security checkpoint by artfully concealing it to avoid detection," Horan says.

Ellis was being held in Salt Lake County jail and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
