Best Dominican Republic Beaches

Best Dominican Republic Beaches

When you talk about the best Dominican Republic beaches, you're actually playing a little game: there are so many beautiful beaches dotting the country's 800 miles of coastline that it would be impossible to come up with a narrow list that meets everybody's needs. Here instead are a few of our favorite action-packed sun-spots and off-the-beaten path retreats.
Best Dominican Republic Beaches – Bayahibe

Though you'll certainly find the crowds at Bayahibe Beach, the nearby town retains much of its rustic charm. In addition to sunbathing, you'll find shops catering to every excursion imaginable, from scuba diving to snorkeling to trips to nearby islands, such as the Catalina nature preserve, so if you tire of sunbathing an adventure or a super-secluded getaway is just a skip off the shore.

Best Dominican Republic Beaches – Boca Chica

The calm waters of Boca Chica make this Dominican Republic beach an ideal spot for families. This is one of the most populous beaches in the Dominican Republic which means it also has the most available to suit your fancy, whether that be shops, bars, restaurants, excursion opportunities, or some combination of all of the above. When taking a vacation, sometimes its nice to have all the options right in front of you.

Best Dominican Republic Beaches – Arroyo Salado

People make a big deal about the Dominican Republic's white sand beaches, which are beautiful, no doubt, but the golden-sanded Arroyo Salado offers so much more more than a change of color. Located in the northern provinece of María Trinidad Sánchez and fed from the mouth of a nearby river, this little-frequented gem is surrounded by mangrove trees and intercut with wide sandbars through its brackish (salt and fresh) water. The waters of Arroyo Salado are also high in sulfur mineral content, which means you can get your mineral bath without having to pay the hotel spa.

Best Dominican Republic Beaches – Cabarete Bay

Cabarete Bay in Puerto Plata is the kiteboarding and windsurfing destination in the Dominican Republic (and one of the premier spots in the world) with the kiteboarding World Cup held there in 2010. The trade winds are often fast and fierce here, so it's not necessarily the best place for beginners, but it's a great day out if you want do something a little out-of-the-ordinary and watch some skilled athletes ply their trade on crystal Caribbean waters. And the beach itself is beautiful.

Best Dominican Republic Beaches – La Minitas

Care for a massage on the beach amid a perfectly maintained beach and gently lapping waters? Of course you do. Near Casa de Campo resort in La Romana, this is the perfect relaxation beach with lovely views, blanched coral sand, and restaurants, vendors and full facilities to cater to your needs. La Minitas is generally not incredibly busy, though as with most of the best Dominican Republic beaches, it will attract the crowds during the high season.
