Hasbro to Unveil Toy for Adults: A Device to Make iPods 3-D
Hasbro (HAS) on Tuesday will unveil a device that will let owners of Apple (APPL) iPods watch content in 3-D, the Associated Press reported Monday.
My3D, which looks like a pair of binoculars with a slot where iPods or iPhones are inserted, will let users view 3-D video games, entertainment and virtual travel content, according to the wire service. The product is expected to hit shelves next spring with a retail price of $30.
The toymaker is banking on the continued popularity of Apple's iPod and iPhone with its new device, which its hoping will help it boost revenue from adults and older children. Last month, Hasbro posted a third-quarter profit that rose 3% from a year earlier to $155.2 million after the company boosted sales of preschool items by 9%. Meanwhile, Apple said last month that it had sold more than 9 million iPods during its fiscal fourth quarter, pushing its profit up 70%.
Apple will sell My3D content at its online applications store, according to the AP.
