Dell also plans to encourage its business clients to make the switch to Dell's own smartphone, the Dell Venue Pro. The Venue Pro runs on Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows Phone 7 software.
Research In Motion (RIMM), the maker of the BlackBerry, was a pioneer in the smartphone market but has seen its market dominance eroded by devices such as the Apple (AAPL) iPhone.
