To save big, new American Casino Guide is a sure thing
The 2011 edition is due out in a few weeks, but author Steve Bourie offered WalletPop a peek at the deals to be had. The $12.78 betting-place bible is packed with 194 exclusive-to-the-book coupons totaling at least $1,000 in value, plus advice on how to play the games and not get your chips Hoovered by the house.
And don't forget the two-for-one admission to a Stripper 101 pole dancing class at Planet Hollywood on the Vegas Strip.
"If you use just one coupon, that will more than cover the cost of the book," Bourie told WalletPop.
In Las Vegas, Bourie's $10 match-play coupons basically provide you with free matching $10 funds to augment $10 bets on so-called even-money games at the Hard Rock, the Palms, and Longhorn. The Sahara has a $25 coupon. On the poker side, the Golden Nugget provides a certificate to add an on-the-house $10 for a $50 buy-in. (Please note that the usual small-type restrictions might apply to any of these.) Among the lodging discounts, El Cortez offers a stay-one-night, get-one-night-free, and the Silverton and Clarion are slashing 20% off certain rooms.
In Atlantic City, buffets will fill you up, even when the chips are down. Two-for-one passes are cooking at Showboat, Harrah's, Trump Taj Mahal and Caesars.
Two-for-one buffets are also being served up at Harrahs in Joliet, Ill, Majestic Star in Gary, Ind., Isle of Capri in Biloxi, Miss., the Silver Slipper in Bay St. Louis, Miss., Hollywood Casino in Tunica, Miss., the Argosy in Kansas City, Mo., and Aquarius in Laughlin, Nev.
The aforementioned is a fraction of the wagering, hotel and food breaks.
The book also gives wallet-sparing details on playing conditions at more than 700 of the nation's legal gaming dens.
When you get to casino country, you might want to pull out the guide's charts for the statistically correct way to play. You might also want to heed another hint: Skip the slots and play video poker instead. As opposed to slots, the video poker payouts can differ, and the outcome is affected by your decisions.
If you can't resist the one-armed/one-button bandits, the book has tips and coupons for you, too.
