Cheap Hotels in Chicago

If you're traveling, saving money without sacrificing quality is usually priority one. Typically the more competition that exists, the higher the likelihood you'll find lower prices on travel costs. Finding cheap hotels in Chicago is no exception to this rule.

With a wide array of budget and luxury accommodations in the city, finding lower priced hotels that still offer great quality and location is fairly easy; however, it takes a little research.

Cheap Hotels in Chicago: $30 to $100 per night

The Carlton Inn Midway makes for an interesting offering in this price range. While many cheap hotels in Chicago exist primarily far away from downtown, the Carlton Inn Midway is strategically placed and affordable. This hotel is a short walk away from Chicago's "El" train system and is only seven stops away from the Loop on the orange line. The hotel is also a short 1.8 miles from the Chicago Midway airport, and a 24-hour shuttle to and from the airport is available for your convenience. Due to its proximity, however, the hotel may fill up quickly for large events: book early. Many folks say that the room rates are reasonable given the high quality. As of this writing I could find rooms for one person as low as $86 a weekend night.

While technically a hostel, Chicago's Hostelling International may fit the bill for the truly budget-conscious traveler. Sure, there aren't deluxe beds and room service, but $29 per person, per night for a bed in a shared dorm isn't all bad. When you toss in the included free breakfast and free wireless Internet and also factor in the close proximity to downtown, you may see value in such accommodations. You'll easily have more money to spend on doing the things you want in majestic Chicago.

Cheap Hotels in Chicago: $101 to $140 per night

The 226-room Four Points Hotel by Sheraton is located close to the Magnificent Mile near downtown, offering quality at a great price. The hotel features a couple of different in-house dining options, meeting rooms, a fitness center, and an indoor heated pool. Smokers should note, however, that the hotel is 100 percent smoke free. As of this writing I found rooms for one person as low as $115 a weekend night when booking a month in advance, making it a strong candidate for one of the better cheap hotels in Chicago's downtown area.

There are also a couple more downtown Chicago hotels that barely slide into this range when booked ahead over the Internet. (Click the previous link to find out more!) It's worth pointing out that some luxury hotels that normally are outside of this price range may offer early booking specials or Internet-only offers that push rates into this cheap hotel category. Be diligent by searching sites like and Don't be afraid to call around either; some hotels don't advertise their special rates on the Internet.
