Bing Maps Route Planner app optimizes Black Friday planning

If there's one thing that experienced Black Friday shoppers will tell you, it's that planning is the key to success on Black Friday. Part of this Black Friday prep is finding all of the Black Friday 2010 ads ahead of time, and the rest is figuring out the best way to get from store to store on Black Friday so that you don't waste any time. Bing Maps Route Optimizer app is just the tool you need to plan out the best route for Black Friday and the rest of the busy shopping season.

The new Route Optimizer app built into Bing Maps makes it easy to add many destinations to a trip around town and find the best order to visit each location as well as how long it will take and the best way to get there. The Route Optimizer app can handle up to 100 destinations, which is more than you'll need for Black Friday, and hopefully more than you'll need for all of your holiday shopping.

Our recommendation is to skip your home address and put the store you are camping out at as your starting location. Given how fast doorbuster items go on Black Friday morning you'll want to pick your starting store and then have an optimized route to take to the rest of the stores you plan to visit.

Adding locations to your optimized route is straightforward, as shown in the steps below provided by Bing.
  1. Go to
  2. Click on map apps on the lower left corner of the white box
  3. Click on the Route Savvy Route Optimizer
  4. Add in your destinations by clicking locations on the map, entering addresses manually on the left-rail, or uploading an Excel file with addresses on each row.
  5. Voila! In a matter of seconds the most optimal route for all your stops is mapped out, with point by point directions to assist.
The only thing we don't like about adding locations is that you can't just type in a store and city to add a destination like you can in the standard version of Bing Maps. Instead you need the address of the store -- which is easy enough to find, but a step you shouldn't have to take.

After all of your locations are entered, you'll have the best route to get to all of your stores and have a better chance at a successful Black Friday outing. The tool will also come in handy when you do the rest of your holiday shopping, since traffic and parking will likely be a nightmare from Black Friday through Christmas Eve.

The Bing Maps Route Planner app is a perfect companion to or the Milo Local Shopping app for Android which help you figure out which local stores have the items you want in stock and at what price.
