Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, will sell as many as 3 million of its Kinect sensors for the Xbox during the fourth quarter, compared to roughly 2.25 million units for Sony's Move motion controllers, International Data Corp. (IDC) said, citing a September survey. Sony began selling the Move in October, while Microsoft launches Kinect sales on Nov. 4.

The Xbox platform continues to boost profit for Microsoft as the company battles Apple Corp. (AAPL) for share of the PC and mobile operating system markets. Microsoft said last week that net income for the quarter ended Sept. 30 jumped 51% from a year earlier, partially because Xbox products boosted revenue within the company's entertainment-devices division by 27%. Overall company revenue increased 25%.

In other sales forecasts, IDC's report also indicated that Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops will be the fourth quarter's best-selling game title, followed by LucusArts' Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II and Electronic Arts Inc.'s (ERTS) Medal of Honor.
