Gemalto Sues Google Over Android OS

Gemalto NV, a Dutch maker of security software, sued Google (GOOG), saying that the Android smartphone operating system used its software without permission.

The complaint accuses Google of improperly including Gemalto's Java Card technology in the Android development platform, Bloomberg News said.

Java Card allows software written in Java and other programming languages to work on smartphones.

The complaint, filed in Texas federal court, also names HTC Corp., (HTCXF) Motorola Inc (MOT). and Samsung Electronics (SSNHY).

The Android operating system is now the most popular operating system for smartphones in the U.S., Bloomberg News reported.
