More kids flashlights recalled over fire danger

Spiderman flashlight recall.Flashlights for kids that project images of Spiderman or other characters sold at Dollar Tree stores are being recalled because they can catch fire, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

It's part of a not-so-curious pattern of poorly made, imported junk marketed to kids that can have devastating consequences. Almost exactly a year ago, a similar menace entered the Consumer Ally household (courtesy of a party goody bag) that ignited and spurred a recall by Target stores. Another flashlight for kids was recalled at the same time.
In this case, its Wolverine, Spider-Man and Iron Man 2 Projector Flashlights, which have caps that go in front of the bulbs to project images, that are latest that can overheat or catch fire. Dollar Tree said it is aware of three incidents involving the flashlights -- which sell for a buck -- melting or burning. About 275,000 of the Chinese-made flashlights were sold across the country.

The flashlights are about 6 1/2 inches long. The packaging has the this number: 16879-20012-003-1003. It also has this UPC: 6 39277 16879 5. They were sold at Dollar Tree, Dollar Bill$, Dollar Tree $1 Stop, Deal$ and Dollar Tree Deal$.

If you have one of them, take them away from children and remove the batteries immediately. After that, the flashlights should be returned where they were bought for a refund or just tossed in the trash.
