BP to Award Bonuses Based on Safety Perfomance

BP (BP) will award its fourth-quarter bonuses based entirely on performance on safety-related issues.

CEO Bob Dudley told employees on Monday that the bonus policy is meant to emphasize that safety is the company's top priority, The Associated Press reported.

The policy will help ensure that "a low-probability, high-impact incident such as the Deepwater Horizon tragedy never happens again," Dudley said in a memo to employees.

The policy applies mainly to employees in operational roles, spokesman Robert Wine told the AP. Factors like plant uptime and production volume will not impact bonuses.

"Everyone will be completely concentrating on running a plant safely," Wine said.
