Adventure Activities in Ocean City - Try if You Dare
There are five adventure activities in Ocean City that I specifically recommend for anyone looking for a memorable day. The first and maybe the most popular:
Flying several hundred feet above the ocean while wearing a parachute and attached to a boat will give you an experience you'll never forget. I recommend O.C. Parasail (410-723-1464). They have two locations in Ocean City. You can head up to 54th Street on the Bay, or if you are staying near the board walk, head down to the Talbot Street Pier. You pick how high you want to fly. They offer rides of 400 feet, 600 feet, and if you are really brave, 800 feet. You also get to choose if you want to fly over the bay or over the ocean. Either way you go, you will witness breathtaking views of this incredibly charming town. And don't worry if not everyone in your party can handle this adventure activity. In Ocean City spectators are allowed to ride along in the boat.
If parasailing isn't for you, the next adventure I recommend is heading out on your own waverunner. Head to Action Watersports (410-524-4769) located at 52nd Street on the bay. They are open every day at 8AM until dusk. Action Watersports offers 3 square miles of waverunning excitement. There is nothing quite like speeding across the bay on your own waverunner. The wind in your hair and the water splashing around you is an indescribable feeling. Don't worry if you are a newcomer, the talented professionals at Action Watersports will give you instructions on safety and on operation of the waverunner. Cruising the bay on a waverunner will give you an up close and personal view of the bay and the picturesque scenery along the shore. It's an experience that will keep you coming back every year.
3. Scuba diving
Ocean City is not really known for scuba diving, but there are several diving sites including ship wrecks off the coast of Ocean City that make for extremely thrilling dives. If this exhilarating activity is up your alley, head to OC Dive Boat LLC (443-333-1011) at the White Marlin Marina at 205 Somerset Street. There you can head out on the "Malama Kai", the 29 foot dive boat. The experienced crew of the Malama Kai will supply you with the training ahead of time. On your journey, you will experience the up close view of ship wrecks and artificial reefs on the ocean floor several miles off the Eastern seaboard. To add to your thrilling experience, try spearfishing. The crew will give you instruction then they will turn you loose on the lobster, flounder, seabass and other fish that inhabit the wreck sites and reef. Words cannot describe the experience of spearfishing on the ocean floor.
4. Sky Diving
An adventure activity in Ocean City that gets the blood pumping like nothing else is sky diving. You will get an incredible view of the city from several thousand feet in the air. Head over to the Ocean City Skydiving Center (410-213-1319) at 12724 Airport Road, Berlin. You can make a reservation online at www.skydiveoc.com. They do offer group discounts so take the whole gang. Jumping out of a plane at 12,000 feet and falling at a speed of 120 miles per hour is an adrenaline rush that cannot be matched. There is nothing that can compare to that feeling. If extreme sports is not daring enough for you.
5. Eat Crabs
You cannot go to Ocean City and not stuff yourself with all-you-can-eat crabs. Head to Waterman's Seafood Company (410-213-1020) on Route 50 at 12505 Ocean Gateway. At Waterman's you can enjoy all-you-can-eat Crabs, Crab Legs, Shrimp and Fried Chicken. You also get your choice of two never ending side dishes. There is a daily happy hour Monday Through Friday 3-6 and Saturday and Sunday 1-6. If there are some members of your party that are not brave enough to tackle the all-you-can-eat feast, Waterman's offers a full menu that includes several dishes for children. Everything is very reasonably priced. The market value sets the price of the all-you-can-eat feasts. This is not a meal for everyone. You have to be brave to sit down at this restaurant and order the all-you-can-eat feast. It is a perfect way to top off an evening in the charming picturesque town of Ocean City, Md. While many people come here for a relaxing vacation laying on the golden beaches and swimming in the deep blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean, there are many activities for thrill seekers and people looking for a rush. Ocean City truly does have something for everyone.
