Florida's AG Targets Alleged 'Robo-Signer'

Updated

Call it ground zero of the foreclosure fiasco: The suburban office of Lender Processing Services Inc. in Alpharetta, Ga. is being investigated by Florida attorney general Bill McCollum for allegedly "robo-signing" thousands of documents that put in motion foreclosure proceedings in Florida. Four law firms in Florida also are included in the investigation. The Florida attorney general's case alleges that the processing firm and law firms often didn't check key information, including who owned the mortgages being foreclosed on. McCollum's office also is investigating a claim that "fabricated documents" were used in foreclosure court actions. Lender Processing says that it already has taken action to fix problem signatures.
