Diane Keaton Sells to 'Glee's' Ryan Murphy

Actress Diane Keaton is having a good run. She recently sold two properties she has had on the market -- one to Glee's Ryan Murphy.

Without question, Murphy gave Keaton something to sing about. The actress' Beverly Hills home -- a stunning remodeled Spanish Colonial Revival redone by Annie Hall herself -- finally sold for an undisclosed amount after being on the market since March 2009. It originally was listed at $12,995,000 and later listed at $10,995,000. (See a picture of it at the bottom of this post.)

Murphy is the mastermind behind the cult hit "Glee." He also created "Nip/Tuck," taking the show's signature line of "Tell me what you don't like about yourself" from undercover reporting work that he did as a journalist for a story on plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills.

Did he get a good deal?
The 1927 courtyard-style hacienda that the Oscar-winning Keaton sold was designed by Ralph Flewelling and featured in the November 2008 issue of Architectural Digest. She paid $8.1 million for it in 2007. The home has an oversize entrance door that leads to a hall and library. The dining room and living room are framed by arched entryways. The 8,434-square-foot home has seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The half-acre grounds include a swimming pool and pathways lined with olive trees.

In a separate sale, Keaton sold the Alfred Newman Estate in Pacific Palisades for $10.75 million. Keaton had listed the one-acre estate at $8.5 million in the spring but then added some acreage to the deal (2.5 acres) and re-listed it at $13.25 million. Land sells, what can we say?

Keaton paid $9.1 million for it in 2007, according to public records. The estate includes a main house, two detached guest suites and a pool.

Keaton devoted about two years to refurbishing the Lloyd Wright-designed house and most likely spent more than she walked away with, although we suspect this was a labor of love. It was built for composer Alfred Newman, who brought home nine Academy Awards. Newman died in 1970, having written music for hundreds of movies during his long career.

The actress-refurbisher restored all the built-in furniture and woodwork, modernized the kitchen and created a loft master bedroom suite on the second floor. The main house has five bedrooms in 4,386 square feet of living space.

Keaton has made quite a reputation for herself in Los Angeles for remodeling and restoring period homes. Adding the "Keaton" stamp to a property adds cache. The actress is known for her good taste and appreciation of top-of-the-line materials and quality craftsmanship. She personally oversees the homes she remodels and will insist that things be redone if done improperly.

Keaton has more than 40 years of film credits and will star in the upcoming comedy, "Morning Glory," due in theaters in November.

Aileen Comora and Paul Lester, both of the Westside Estate Agency in Beverly Hills, shared both listings.
