Verizon Wireless to Sell Motorola's Business Smartphone, Droid Pro

Updated

Verizon Wireless will sell the Droid Pro, Motorola's (MOT) first device for business customers that uses the Google (GOOG) Android operating platform.

The new device will feature corporate-level security on e-mails, Reuters reported. It will also support Flash software and have Wi-Fi short-range wireless connections so users can stay connected in areas of weak cell phone coverage.

The phone will be available in November. Motorola did not name a price.

The Droid Pro will battle for market share with Research In Motion's (RIMM) BlackBerry, which is also sold at Verizon Wireless. Motorola hopes that customers will prefer the Droid Pro's combination of work e-mail and smartphone features.

"Consumers like certain phones, but they just want those enterprise features," Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha told Reuters.

Verizon Wireless promoted Motorola's first two Droid phones, helping Motorola revitalize its ailing phone business.

Verizon Wireless is a venture between Verizon Communications (VZ) and Vodafone (VOD).
