There is no happier place for happy times and happy hours than Savannah, Ga. Although many people think of River Street when they think of happy hour in Savannah, some lesser known pubs around the historic district offer great happy hour specials that you're sure to enjoy. Take a look at this list, and find the one that will make you the happiest!

1. Loving Delights at Lulu's

To me, this delightful place rather sums up Savannah - eclectic, delicious and Southern, all at the same time. Lulu's Chocolate Bar is located right in the historic district. Happy hour is every day from 5PM-8PM and features $2 off martinis and $3 wells. Free cookie bites are served. On Mondays and Thursdays, $5 champagne cocktails are featured, and on Wednesdays, the special is $4 for any tropical drink.

Many specialty drinks are offered on Lulu's happy hour menu. Come and enjoy a specialty martini, like the Raspberry Espresso, Key Lime Pie, or Peanut Butter Cup. With all the choices, you truly can have your favorite divine dessert and drink it, too. Lulu's has received countless awards and recommendations from several sources, including Savannah Magazine. All desserts are made from scratch on site. This is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon following walking and touring historical sites and shopping. Don't drive soon afterwards - these liquid dessert cocktails are pretty potent!

2. Party at the Crystal Beer Parlor

Happy hour in Savannah wouldn't be the same without a trip to The Crystal Beer Parlor, established in 1933 and the second oldest restaurant and bar in the city. Happy hour is Monday through Friday from 4PM-7PM. Discounts are offered on any and every drink, and they have plenty to choose from, including tons of different drafts.

On Mondays, the Crystal Beer Parlor hosts a trivia quiz at 9PM. Drink specials are offered and there is a chance to compete for $6,000. The environment is old Savannah, as is the red brick building itself.

The happy hour menu has plenty of good food, too. For $9, you can sink your teeth into the Gawgia Cracka Nachos, which is a Savannah version featuring barbecue sauce, cheddar and chopped dill pickles atop crisp nachos. They are famous for their delicious burgers, creamy crab stew and hand cut fries. Be sure to save room for dessert, and allow me to recommend the exclusive Banana Eggrolls, a concoction stuffed with bananas, peanut butter, chocolate, and topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel.

3. Bravo Bravo for Bar Bar

Bar Bar is well known by locals but little known by tourists who usually head over to River Street. With a laid back and casual atmosphere, Bar Bar is small and quaint. Happy hour is held nightly until 9PM and features $2 domestics, $3 imports and $2.75 well drinks. Free pool is offered.

This is a Savannah local bar the younger crowd frequents and Thursday night is always College Night, where students receive half off all drinks with a college ID. The bartenders are cool. The bar was started by bartenders who wanted to own and work in a place where patrons and employees could build a special relationship of community spirit.

Hours: Mon-Thu 6PM-close, Fri-Sat 5PM-close

4. Cheers for Coach's Corner

As much as Savannah loves its heritage, it also loves its favorite sports teams. Coach's Corner is the ultimate sport fan's sports bar. Wide screens line the place with different games and teams playing on each one. This Savannah local bar broadcasts all sports and all games, including the area favorites, the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Happy hour is daily from 11AM until 7PM with specials on all drinks from the bar. The place is usually packed with men. Typical bar food, from hamburgers to hot dogs, is served. The food is good, and the prices are great. If you love sports and are visiting Savannah, this is the place to go.

Hours: Daily 11AM-midnight

5. Sensational and Seedy at Savannah Smiles

Every hour is truly a happy hour at this Savannah local bar and piano dive. If you have visions of an elegant and stuffy piano bar, this is the polar opposite. Savannah Smiles is frequented by bachelorette parties and a noisy, rowdy crowd. There are dueling pianists playing and singing risque songs, much to the delight and involvement of each night's crowd.

The official happy hour is Wednesday through Saturday from 5PM-7PM and on Sundays from 5:30PM-7PM. Appetizers are featured on the happy hour menu. If you want to have a dinner with conversation, eat dinner before you go; you will not be able to hear a word above the pianos, singing, and carrying on.

Hours: Wed-Fri 5PM-3AM, Sat 5:30PM-3AM, Sun 5:30PM-2AM

6. Chalkboard Specials

You will find in Savannah, which is often nicknamed "Slow-Vannah," that pubs and bars do not always push an organized agenda. If things have been slow the last few days, they will suddenly declare a happy hour on a minute's notice, write it on a blackboard and advertise it on an easel set up outside the door. Just as quickly, when a few more patrons wander in, the sign may be removed.

Actually, in a high traffic area like River Street, this is an effective way to manage business. They do not have to advertise across the web and place coupons in local tourist magazines. Look for the chalkboards during happy hour in Savannah - you will often find a very good bargain!
