Software developer Mozilla has no plans to develop a version of its Firefox Internet browser specifically for Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) iPhone, InformationWeek reported, citing an announcement from the company.

Mozilla cited "technical and logistical restrictions that make it difficult, if not impossible, to build the full Firefox browser for the iPhone," according to the publication. The company, though, is taking a look at building a browser for iPad tablet users, InformationWeek said.

Firefox, along with Google's Chrome browser, has been chipping away at Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) Internet Explorer's lead when it comes to browser usage, according to Net Applications. Since early last year, Internet Explorer's share fell to about 60% from 70%, while Firefox's share has increased gradually to about 25%, Net Applications said in May.

Mozilla seeks to upgrade Firefox Home for BlackBerry and Symbian users, the company said, adding that those two platforms account for about 60% of the global smartphone market, according to InformationWeek.
