Best Buy Will Give Away Phones Each Friday in October for Mobile Promotion

Best Buy Inc. (BBY) will give away four types of mobile phones each Friday in October, marking the largest U.S. electronics retailer's effort to maintain momentum after beating earnings estimates for its most recently completed quarter.

The company will offer one free phone each from carriers Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile every Friday starting Oct. 1, Best Buy said in a statement today. The Samsung Fascinate (Verizon), BlackBerry Curve (Sprint), HTC Aria (AT&T) and Samsung Gravity 3 (T-Mobile) will be the phones offered for free this Friday, said Best Buy, which will require a two-year commitment with the giveaway.

Best Buy hopes the promotions will boost revenue from mobile-phone subscriptions, upgrades and accessories. The company said earlier this month that earnings for the quarter ended Aug. 28 surged 61% as average spending per customer more than offset a decline in consumer traffic.

On each of the Thursdays before the remaining four Fridays of the month, Best Buy will use the Best Buy Mobile Facebook page and Twitter account to announce which phones will be given away.
