New Budweiser Marketing Strategy: Free Beer

Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) will hand out free beer in its latest attempt to revive the Budweiser brand.

The brewer will give away samples of the beer to 500,000 people at hip bar and restaurants in the coming weeks, Reuters said.

The promotion is intended to attract new customers as more Americans start going out to socialize after the recession forced many to stay home.

The company also plans to allocate most of its media budget to promoting Budweiser, Anheuser-Busch President Dave Peacock said.

For one week, the company will focus about 90% of its U.S. media spending on Budweiser, compared with a usual figure of no more than 40%.
